Arkansas Travelers News Release

North Little Rock, AR - The Frisco RoughRiders rode the bat of centerfielder Engel Beltre to an 8-1 victory over the Arkansas Travelers on Tuesday night at Dickey-Stephens Park. Beltre was 3-for-5 with two home runs, including a tie-breaking grand slam, and six runs batted in helping Frisco take 2-of-3 in Arkansas. 'Riders starting pitcher Justin Grimm (2-0) was stingy with just 4 hits, 2 walks and 1 run allowed in 6.1 innings.

The Travs now head on the road for six games with a 2-4 record, while Frisco returns home 4-2.

Travs right hander A.J. Schugel (0-1) had the upper hand early on holding the RoughRiders to three base runners in four innings. Grimm left runners in scoring position in the first two innings, but settled in to retire 15 of 18 before finally allowing a run in the seventh inning.

The 'Riders broke through in the fifth inning sending eight batters to the plate against Schugel. Chris McGuiness hit a bloop single in a leadoff role, but Schugel set down the next two batters. Suddenly Schugel lost command and walked Guilder Rodriguez and Ryan Strausborger to load the bases for Beltre. After striking out twice earlier, Beltre hammered a 2-1 pitch down the right-field line and over the fence for a grand slam.

Schugel was tacked with the loss allowing four runs on five hits in five innings adding three walks and seven strikeouts.

The Travs managed their only tally in the seventh as Renny Osuna knocked Grimm from the game with a triple then scored when Rian Kiniry grounded out.

Beltre had a hand in two more successful innings for the RoughRiders. He led off the eighth against Eddie McKiernan with a single to left and later scored on a double by Alex Buchholz. Beltre also capped Frisco's night with a two-run homer in the ninth.

Time of game was 2:47 and the paid attendance was 3,706.

The Travs take Wednesday off to travel to Midland, Texas where they'll begin a six-game road trip on Thursday.
