Arkansas Travelers News Release
Wolff Stadium, San Antonio, Texas - San Antonio (13-7, 51-39) continued their domination of the Travelers (8-12, 42-48) as the Missions pulled out an 8-4 victory over Arkansas. RF T.J. Bohn doubled and homered (6) to lead San Antonio to its tenth win in 13 games against the Travs. San Antonio has won all six games between the teams at Wolff Stadium. The Travs had several chances for a big hit, but left nine runners on base and were 0-for-10 with a runner in scoring position. Missions SS Adam Jones went 3-for-4 while LHP Chris Key (2-0) allowed a run in four relief innings for the win. Travs RHP Kasey Olenberger (3-5) suffered the loss by allowing seven runs (six earned) on seven hits and four innings.
The Travs got ahead of the Missions in the second inning by taking advantage of three walks and a throwing error. Rowland-Smith walked the first two hitters of the inning followed by Greg Porter's hard grounder to second base. David Gates was forced out at second base, but Jones threw wild to first allowing Kendry Morales to score for a 1-0 Travs lead. The loss is the Travs' seventh straight road loss, and their record on the road is 14-29.
The Missions answered in the second inning with a few bounces that went San Antonio's way. Olenberger issued a one-out walk and then Jon Nelson hit a nubber that stopped a third of the way to third base for his first hit in 24 at bats. Adam Jones followed with a ground ball to the hole at shortstop for a single that loaded the bases. Missions C Brian Moon then hit a possible double play grounder to second base. After getting a force out at second base, and Jones barreling down on second base SS Erick Aybar threw the ball away for an error that brought home two runs. Moon went to second base and scored when Ismael Castro singled over third base for a 3-1 Missions lead.
Travs RF Tommy Murphy smacked the first pitch of the third inning over the left-field fence for a home run (11) that cut San Antonio's lead to 3-2. Mike Napoli reached base with a double giving the Travs a chance to tie the game. However Moon picked off Napoli at second base to clear the bases. Gates followed with a triple off the left-field wall, but was stranded when Porter popped out.
Bohn reached second base with one out in the third inning with a double, but was tagged out by Aybar on a groundball to shortstop for the second out. Gary Harris then smacked a line-drive, aided by an unusual stiff wind blowing out to right field, for a two-run homer (4) putting the Missions ahead 5-2.
Arkansas loaded the bases against Missions starter LHP Ryan Rowland-Smith on two walks and a single by Reggie Willits in the fourth inning. They managed only one run when Murphy rolled a ball to third base and beat a relay throw to prevent a double play.
San Antonio pulled away in the fifth inning when Bohn homered to score Jesus Guzman for a 7-2 lead. Castro delivered another RBI single in the sixth inning to put the Missions up 8-3.
Mike Eylward replaced Morales at first base in the sixth inning and blasted a solo home run (7) in the seventh inning to cap the scoring.
Time of game was 2:35 and the paid attendance was 4,029.
