Travelers find a way past Express

Round Rock Express News Release

Arkansas and Round Rock did their best to not win Monday's game. Unfortunately for the Express, they did a better job. The Travelers scored seven runs in the bottom of the ninth to beat Round Rock, 8-3, in front of another record setting crowd of 9,841 at The Dell Diamond.

The game got started in a familiar manner for these two teams. Both have struggled to get early runs during the four game series and that held true for the first four innings. Round Rock was able to put together a run in the fifth, though, thanks to some Arkansas miscues. Gavin Wright singled with one out and moved to third on a throwing error by Ryan Budde on a stolen base. He then scored on a wild pitch by starter Rich Fischer.

Arkansas got to Houlton for one run in the sixth on an RBI double by Casey Smith to tie the game, 1-1. That was followed by a run in the seventh on a bases loaded walk to John Tamargo, meaning Round Rock scored two runs on a combined two hits.

Houlton departed with a 2-1 lead, but Jake Weber took care of that on the first pitch he saw from Max Tremblay in the ninth, depositing it in the right field berm for his second home run of the year. That was followed by a series of hits by the Travelers to plate six more runs, highlighted by a two-run triple by Nathan Haynes.

That overshadowed a night that saw the Express set a new attendance record for an eight game series. Round Rock brought in 84,705 for the homestand, breaking the previous record of 83,237 set May 18-25, 2002.

Tremblay (1-2) and Scott Schneider (5-2) picked up the win. The Express will now take a mini-roadtrip to El Paso for a four game series starting Tuesday.
