Trashers fall 3-2 in shootout at Richmond

RICHMOND, VA--Bill Vandemeer's game-tying goal came at the 12:12 mark of the 3rd period as it set the stage for Richmond, who came from behind to top Danbury in a shootout 3-2 on Friday night from the Richmond Coliseum.

Danbury and Richmond traded goals over the course of the game as Donny Grover's 4th gave Danbury a 1-0 lead at the 16:42 mark of the opening period.

Richmond's Joey Bastien tied the game at 1-1 with a power play goal at 13:54 of the second period, on assists from Dan Vandemeer and Mike Oliviera.

J.M. Daoust netted his 17th of the season at the 6:50 mark of the final period as he snapped a shot past Richmond netminder Doug Groenestege to give Danbury a 2-1 lead before Bill Vandemeer knocked in a rebound past Jayme Platt at 12:12.

Danbury pulled Platt for the shootout and went to Sly Daigle, who only stopped one of three shots faced as Oliveira and Bill Vandemeer both scored. The Trashers were unable to get anything past Groenestege in four shots.

Platt stopped 29 of 31 shots in regulation while Groenstege saved 30 of 32. Danbury's record is now 27-11-7 and currently have a seven point lead over Adirondack in the UHL East.

Danbury returns to the ice on Saturday night at 7:35 against the Adirondack from the Glens Falls Civic Center, also at 7:35pm..

The Trashers return home on Sunday afternoon February 5th against Adirondack at 2pm.
