Danbury Trashers News Release

DANBURY, CT--Despite taking a brief 3rd period lead on a goal by Norwalk's Eric Lind, the Trashers were unable to come from behind on Saturday night. Joey Bastien's second goal of the night tied the score at the 13:02 mark, then the Richmond RiverDogs outshot the Trashers in the shootout en route to a 5-4 win on Saturday night at the Danbury Ice Arena.

Bastien's first goal opened the scoring at the 6:07 mark as he fired a blistering shot past Jayme Platt after a Danbury turnover caused by Dan Vandemeer. However the Trashers tied the score late in the period as Ryan Barnes beat Mike D'Alessandro with 14.8 seconds left in the period to tie the score at 1-1.

Bobby Kukulka then gave Richmond a 2-1 lead at the 5:23 mark, but Danny Stewart tied the score with his 7th of the season at the 7:23 mark.

With Fred Belanger in the penalty box for a slashing call at the 18:51 mark, Mike Oliveira netted his 31st of the season as he banged in a rebound past Platt to give Richmond a 3-2 lead after the second period.

Danbury started off the final period strong as David Hymovitz netted a power play goal at the 4:03 mark, followed by Lind's go-ahead goal at the 10:06 mark. Lind pushed the puck past the goal line after Alex Goupil's initial shot didn't completely get into the net. Stewart also added an assist.

Richmond tied the score as Bastien redirected a point shot from Dan Vandemeer at the 13:02 mark. A few minutes later, Stewart fought Dennis Mullen as he earned the "Gordie Howe Hat Trick" for the night.

Evgeny Lazarev and Kukulka scored in the shootout, while none of the four Danbury shooters were able to get one past D'Alessandro. Platt stopped 32 of 36 shots in regulation while D'Alessandro saved 33 of 37.

Danbury returns to the ice on Tuesday night in Glens Falls against the Adirondack Frostbite at 7:00pm. The Trashers will travel to Elmira and Roanoke next Friday and Saturday before returning home on Sunday against the Jackals. Tickets are available at DanburyTrashers.com or by calling 866-565-PUCK.
