Rockford IceHogs News Release

Rockford, Ill.- The Rockford IceHogs topped the Missouri River Otters on Saturday night 6-3 in front of 5,247 fans at the Rockford MetroCentre propelling the club to their franchise record tenth straight victory. For the second game in a row an IceHogs player celebrated a Hat Trick. Last night it was team captain Jason Ralph and tonight rookie winger Yannick Tifu put three pucks in the net and tallied an assist to lead the team to the record win. The win also jumps Rockford over the Muskegon Fury as the first place overall team in the UHL.

Tifu put the Hogs on the board scoring his first goal at the 19:18 mark of the first period, the lone goal of the frane. In the second period winger Greg Barber tallied a goal at 3:33 and Tifu notched his second of the night 32 seconds later at 4:05. The second frame proved to be an offensive one with six combined goals scored by each club. Missouri defenseman Tim O'Connell decided he wanted the River Otters last tilt against the IceHogs at the MetroCentre this season to be a competive one so he launched a shot top shelf past goalie Ronnie Vogel to make the score 3-1.

Missouri never did get within two goals, though, as Rockford kept the pressure on. Rockford rookie Chaz Johnson scored at the 7:47 mark of the second period to make the score 4-1, but UHL veteran and newly signed River Otter Lonnie Loach answered almost immediately, 8 seconds later, at 7:55. Tifu closed out the period with a highlight goal and some stunning puck handling tallying his Hat Trick goal. This was Tifu's second Hat Trick of the season..

The final period opened with Rockford rookie Robin Big Snake notching a goal early in the frame at the 3:46 mark putting the IceHogs up 6-2. That's the way it looked like it was going to end until Missouri forward Jim Duhart snuck a late goal past Vogel with 3 seconds left on the clock to make the final 6-3.

IceHogs winger Jason Notermann finished with three assists on the night and rookie winger Chaz Johnson had a nice effort adding an assist to his goal. The two clubs meet again Sunday with the tail end of a home-and-home at the Family Arena in St. Charles, Missouri.

Next Home Game: Wednesday, Feb. 15 vs. Fort Wayne Komets. The game is slated to start at 7:05 p.m. The Hogs and Komets renew their divisional rivalry for the third time this season at the MetroCentre. Wednesday night's game is also the final FlyAWay Wednesday game of the year brought to you by the Chicago/Rockford Airport and Allegiant Air.
