Somerset Patriots News Release
Bridgewater, NJ - The Somerset Patriots (15-6) defeated the Sugar Land Skeeters (15-9) 2-1 at TD Bank Ballpark on Wednesday evening.
With the score tied 1-1 in the bottom of the eighth inning, Justin Trapp launched a solo home run (2) to left field to give the Patriots a 2-1 lead that would be the final score.
"It was a huge at bat. All game they were throwing me off with the curveball out and pounding me in," said Trapp. "I was looking for that pitch and got it. I put a good swing on it and luckily I hit a home run to help the team win tonight."
The Skeeters took an early 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning on a solo home run by Derek Norris (2).
Somerset tied up the game in the bottom of the third inning on an RBI groundout by Adam Weisenburger.
Chase Huchingson (2-0) picked up the win with a scoreless inning pitched and two strikeouts. Hunter Cervenka (1-1) suffered the loss, allowing a run on a hit in an inning pitched. Ryan Kelly earned his fourth save of the season with a perfect ninth inning pitched.
The 2018 Somerset Patriots Season presented by Ford will continue at home with a 11:05 am game on Thursday, May 24th against the Sugar Land Skeeters. For tickets, visit www.somersetpatriots.com.
