
Somerset Patriots Bring Back All Star RHP David Kubiak

Bridgewater, NJ - The Somerset Patriots have All-Star re-signed right-handed pitcher David Kubiak for the 2018 season.
Kubiak enters his second with the Somerset Patriots and his third year in the Atlantic League. The 6'7" righty made 21 appearances (18 starts) with the Patriots last year. He earned five wins and carried a 3.83 ERA with 117 strikeouts against 34 walks over 112.2 innings pitched. After starting the year as a reliever, Kubiak transitioned into the starting rotation and was later selected to the 2017 Atlantic League All-Star Game.
The Riverhead, New York native worked at least five innings in all of his 18 starts, including eight games in which he struck out at least seven batters. The Fubon Guardians of the Chinese Professional Baseball League purchased his contract in late August. At the time when his contract was purchased, Kubiak ranked second in the league in strikeouts and tenth in ERA.
Kubiak carried a 1.42 ERA over three appearances in the New York Yankees organization at the Double-A level in 2016 sandwiched around 20 games (15 starts) with the Bridgeport Bluefish. In Bridgeport, Kubiak went 7-4 with a 3.75 ERA and 106 strikeouts over 100.2 innings of work.
The SUNY Albany alumnus previously spent three seasons in the Frontier League, including a 2014 campaign in which he went 7-2 with a 1.50 ERA and seven saves over 48 innings in 38 combined appearances between Southern Illinois and Joliet.
Kubiak owns a 3.34 ERA and 475 strikeouts over 157 games (45 starts) in his six-year professional career.
