Edmonton Trappers News Release

Right-hander Seung Song (6-0) yielded just two runs on six hits and two walks, while fanning two in 7.0 solid innings as the Edmonton Trappers downed the Oklahoma RedHawks 6-2 Saturday night at TELUS Field. Song has been outstanding since joining the Trappers from Double-A Harrisburg on June 12. He has allowed two or fewer runs in seven of his nine starts and was 3-0 with a stellar 2.05 ERA in five starts in June. Song was ranked by Baseball America as the fifth-best prospect in the Montreal Expos farm system entering the season and he has certainly lived up to that billing going 11-2 between his two stops. The Trappers banged out 15 hits on Saturday night, the 54th time this season the club has had 10 or more hits in a game. Oklahoma starter Ryan Snare (2-2) took the loss. The lefty allowed five runs, four earned on 12 hits and one walk in 6.1 innings. The Trappers are now 22-11 when the opponent starts a left-hander. Edmonton stopped a five-game losing streak at TELUS Field and have now won four of their last five games. The Trappers currently lead the North Division by 2 ½ games over the Salt Lake Stingers. Edmonton and Oklahoma continue this four-game series on Sunday afternoon at TELUS Field.

Oklahoma opened the scoring with a single run off Song in the top of the first inning. Former Trapper Ryan Christenson singled to left field with one out and came around to score on Mike Lamb's triple down the right field line. The RedHawks took a two-run lead in the third inning when leadoff man Jeff Pickler drew a walk to start the frame, stole second, moved to third on a fly ball and scored on a sacrifice fly by first baseman Jason Hart. Edmonton center fielder Peter Bergeron doubled to open the bottom of the third. He moved to third on an error by Oklahoma left fielder Jermaine Clark and scored on a ground out by Terrmel Sledge. Song settled down after the third inning, allowing only three singles over the next four innings. The only Oklahoma runner to reach second off Song after the third inning was shortstop Manny Alexander, who singled and stole second in the seventh. Alexander had four hits, three singles and a triple, in the contest. Snare seemed to be in trouble in every inning as the Trappers left runners stranded in all but one of the first six frames.

Edmonton exploded for five runs on seven hits in the seventh inning. Shortstop Anthony Medrano led off the inning with a single to right field. Bergeron laid down a sacrifice bunt that moved Medrano to second. Second baseman Luis Figueroa followed with a base hit to right field that plated Medrano with the tying run. Terrmel Sledge then singled, moving Figueroa to second and Ryan Balfe gave the Trappers the lead for the first time with a run-scoring single that plated Figueroa and moved Sledge to second. Snare was lifted and replaced by Tom Graham, who struck out Valentino Pascucci, but then yielded a two-run double to Matt Cepicky and an RBI single to Scott Hodges that capped the scoring in the inning. Julio Manon came on in relief of Song in the eighth inning and tossed 2.0 shutout frames in his first appearance back with the Trappers since being optioned from Montreal. He allowed one hit and struck out two along the way. Hodges had three hits for the Trappers on the night, his second consecutive three-hit game.
