Round Rock Express News Release
The San Antonio Missions have seemingly found a dozen ways to beat the Round Rock Express this year. Saturday night, though, the Express found a way of their own.
Round Rock scored the winning run in the top of the 13th inning to grab a hard fought 7-6 win.
Tied at six going into the 13th, Gavin Wright doubled off of Justin Lamber to lead off the inning. Chrus Burke sacrificed him to third, bringing up John Tamargo. Against a drawn in infield, Tamargo lined a shot through the middle to bring home the winning run.
That was preceeded by a pair of comebacks in the earlier extra innings.
Down 6-5 in the 11th, Greg Jacobs drove home the tying run with a clear single to center field off of Jory Coughenour.
In the top of the 11th, Round Rock took advantage of a pair of errors and Burke's sacrifice fly gave the Express the lead in the top of the inning.
Chris Tremie led off Round Rock's final at bat with a twisting fly ball to right that Jacobs had measured. However, the ball bounced off the heel of his glove, giving Tremie second base. Gavin Wright tried to sacrifice pinch runner Jon Topolski to third and did so, with the help of a fielding error by John Lindsey. Burke then fought of nine pitches against winner Brian Strelitz (1-0)and lifted a fly ball to Jacobs that brough home Topolski.
Max Tremblay (2-2) got the win and Lamber (3-2). Cheyenne Janke, usually a starter, was forced into action as a reliever and pitched the 13th for his first save.
Prior to the end of the game, the Express and Missions battled back and forth for ten innings. San Antonio took a 2-0 lead in the third but were matched in the fifth, including an RBI single by Burke.
Round Rock also put up three runs in the seventh, highlighted by a two-run single by Tommy Whiteman.
The series finale will be Sunday at 6:05 p.m.
