Trappers Game in Omaha Rained Out

Today's Pacific Coast League game between the Edmonton Trappers and the Omaha Royals, originally scheduled to begin at 5:05 PM at Rosenblatt Stadium in Omaha, has been postponed due to rain. The game will be rescheduled as part of a doubleheader on Sunday, June 8 with the first game getting underway at 12:05 PM Edmonton time. Sunday's doubleheader will be the club' s sixth of the season. Edmonton has swept one twinbill this season and has split the other four. The Trappers are currently 4 ½ games behind the first-place Portland Beavers in the North Division of the Pacific Coast League.

Edmonton's bats have been extremely hot as of late. The club currently leads the Pacific Coast League with a .297 team batting average and is hitting .346 (97-for-280) in the last eight games. The Trappers have banged out 10 or more hits in all eight of those contests and have scored 46 runs, while compiling a 5-3 record. Edmonton has scored five or more runs in six of the eight games.

Outfielder Terrmel Sledge is having an outstanding season for the Trappers thus far. He was named the Player of the Month for May after batting .371 (36-for-97) with three home runs and 20 RBI in 25 games. It is the second consecutive month in which Sledge has won the award. He is currently on a 19-game hitting streak, during which time he is batting .423 (30-for-71) with four home runs and 15 RBI. It is the longest current hitting streak in the PCL and is the second longest streak in the league this season. Sledge is seventh in the league in batting with a .335 average, is tied for fifth in hits with 67, is third in on-base percentage (.443) and is tied for fifth in triples with four.

Utility man Edwards Guzman was also having a terrific season before he was selected off the Trappers roster by the Montreal Expos on Saturday. He is currently batting .352, the fourth highest average in the Pacific Coast League, and is third in the league in hits with 75. Guzman ended his stay with the Trappers by putting together an 11-game hitting streak, during which he batted .455 (20-for-44). Several other Trappers are on hot streaks, including outfielder Valentino Pascucci, who is batting .385 (20-for-52) in his last 18 games and shortstop Anthony Medrano, who has reached base via a hit or a walk in 26 consecutive games.

Sunday's doubleheader will conclude the season series between the Trappers and the Royals. Edmonton will begin a four-game series in Des Moines against the Iowa Cubs on Monday night. Iowa is currently tied for the second worst record in the league at 24-35 and are 7 ½ games behind Colorado Springs in the Central Division standings.

The next Trapper home game will be on Friday, June 13 when the club will take on the Sacramento River Cats. The game will begin at 7:05 PM.
