Sherbrooke, Juin 17, 2011 - A lot of positives came from the Montreal Alouettes' 27-15 pre-season victory over the Winnipeg Blue Bombers at Percival Molson Stadium last night. Offensive coordinator Scott Milanovich, who has done a masterful job since the beginning of training camp, opened up the playbook which allowed the Alouettes to pick up right from where they left off last season.

"It was an interesting game on offence and our receivers came up big for us," said Head Coach Marc Trestman when he met with members of the media on Monday at Bishop's University. "Our quarterbacks had some tight and contested throws that we won and our younger guys made some good decisions."

In the backfield One of the most intriguing story lines that has been developing since the debut of training camp lies at the running back position. Brandon Whitaker, who got the nod to start the game, did not have many opportunities to solidify his position on the team's depth chart.

"We were trying to get the ball in the hands of certain players, but we were not able to get a clear look at our running backs. Winnipeg's defence loaded the box on first down, giving us one on one coverage and we exploited that," added Trestman.

Trestman placed a lot of emphasis on the fact that players must prove themselves in practices, because they may not always have the chance to do so during pre-season games.

Walter Spencer injury Walter Spencer injured his elbow in the Alouettes' pre-season opener. Initially diagnosed as a sprain, he travelled back to Bishop's University to resume training camp. He was later re-examined however, and is now back in Montreal to undergo further testing. "We are crossing our fingers and waiting for the results," Trestman told reporters.

Looking ahead The Alouettes will look to play more of their starting line-up as they enter the final days of camp. Trestman was adamant about getting the veterans more playing time in practice and in the final pre-season game against the Hamilton Tiger-Cats, scheduled on June 22 at Ivor Wynne Stadium.

Anthony Calvillo, Mark Estelle, Kerry Watkins, Kerry Carter and Dallas Baker are all expected to get back into action in the coming days.
