Montreal Alouettes News Release
Trois-Rivières - The well over 1,500 fans in attendance at Stade Diablos in Trois-Rivières on Monday gave the Alouettes a warm welcome when they stepped on the field.
The offence and defence showed each other up throughout the night, trying to make a nicer play than the unit on the other side of the ball.
Vernon Adams Jr. set the tone completing a 15-yard pass to Kaion Julien- Grant, before Jeshrun Antwi broke free for a 58-yard touchdown run.
A few plays later, Chris Ackie helped the defensive squad when he registered a sack. Then, receiver Hergy Mayala made the most spectacular catch of the evening when he dived before hauling in the ball.
"I thought the guys competed well tonight. They made plays on both offence and defence. The special teams were very disciplined. We still have a long way to go, but I feel good about where we are at," said Alouettes Head Coach, Khari Jones. "The receivers were solid. We are going to be good on that side. The defensive backs made some plays on the ball, which I really like to see. There were also some nice hits from the linebackers."
Among the plays worth mentioning, there was a 40-yard reception by Cole Spieker on a Trevor Harris pass, as well as Jarnor Jones interception off the latter. Kirshwan Hogan, Fabian Guerra, Régis Cibasu and Kaion Julien-Grant all scored receiving touchdowns.
He said it...
"What an atmosphere! It was incredible for an intra-squad game. I've been here for three years and I've never seen that many fans. For my part, I am satisfied with my game, cohesion is slowly starting on both sides."
- Greg Reed, defensive back
He said it too...
"In these intra-squad games, you don't have too many opportunities to showcase yourself, as there are so many guys to evaluate. You have to take advantage of every opportunity you have. I liked our game today, fans have been very good with us."
- Quan Bray, receiver
Transaction
The Alouettes added American kicker Matt Mengel (UCLA) to the roster. He was part of the team last season.
