Montreal Alouettes News Release
Trois-Rivières - Mother Nature complicated things at the beginning of the day. Thunder and bad weather delayed the start of the morning practice, but players were still able to be on the field for nearly four hours. According to Head Coach Khari Jones, players need to execute small plays like catching passes and securing the ball when it hits the ground, and also to follow the man in one-on-one coverage.
Samuel Thomassin is a Warrior...
Last year, in the early days of the camp, offensive lineman Samuel Thomassin went down with an injury. The Quebec native worked like a madman in the hope of finally being "an Alouette" during the last few months. A wrist injury prevented that from happening... He missed 12 of his team's 14 games in 2021. Already deprived of his favourite sport for more than a year in 2020 due to the pandemic, the former Université de Laval Rouge et Or veteran was forced to miss the game he loves even more.
"To be honest, the last two years have not been easy. My only motivation was to visualize and see myself on the field in the Alouettes uniform", says the 6'6" and 330-pound giant. "I kept a positive attitude because I believed in myself. The coaches and my teammates were also there to keep my mindset positive."
Every morning he was in the team's gym, and he lifted weights and ran over and over again. Rain or shine, Thomassin was there like a soldier, hoping to be back in action quickly. Then in the last few months of the season, he was in uniform for two games, which was a huge relief for him. Today, the 27-year-old athlete stepped on the field in Trois-Rivières and several of his supporters were in the stands.
Intra-squad game
With all the schedule shuffling happening during camp, the team's intra-squad game will take place on Monday, May 23 at 7 pm, at Stade Diablos. A pre-game party will be organized for fans in the parking lot, starting at 4 pm.
He said it...
"For now, things are going very well for me. I'm happy with my runs", said running back William Stanback. "Camp is designed to familiarize ourselves with the playbook and to build chemistry with our teammates, that's what matters right now."
Rapid fire..
Hats off to the equipment guys Domenico and Thomas and all the therapists who had to juggle the equipment because of Mother Nature's whims... André Proulx and CFL officials are in Trois-Rivières to explain the new rules to players... In the one-on-one exercises, receiver Kevin Kaya beat defensive back Robert Hayes jr. and caught the ball thrown from at least 35 yards while diving on the ground. Spectators enjoyed it! Receiver Fabian Guerra continues to do well. He picked up again a few missiles from over 30 yards regardless of the quarterbacks... Quarterback Vernon Adams Jr. is patient with the ball and reads the game well. He made the right decisions over and over... Coaches Luc Brodeur-Jourdain, Anthony Calvillo and Barron Miles went to the Estacades intra-squad game yesterday at Stade Alphonse-Desjardins. They were impressed by the crown of about 600 fans.
