Training Camp Report - Day 15
June 3, 2019 - Canadian Football League (CFL)
Montreal Alouettes News Release
Montreal - All CFL players are passionate about the game. People who commit themselves to their sport day in and day out for the love of the game.
That is true in the case of international defensive back Marcus Cromartie, who joined the Alouettes this off-season, following a six-year stint in the NFL, notably with the San Francisco 49ers.
"I like what I see from our team. We are coming together and getting better everyday day. The loss to Toronto was humbling, but as long as we get better, the results will come," said the former University of Wisconsin Badger.
Cromartie played 22 games in the NFL, while his cousin Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie has been playing there since 2008 and will suit up with the Washington Redskins in 2019.
"I come from a family where sports are important. We challenge each other to become better. My cousin will most definitely come see a game in Montreal this summer," said the 28-year-old. "I don't know if we are related with former Expos player Warren Cromartie, but we probably do somewhere down the line."
Rapid Fire
Receiver Malcolm Carter continues to stand out. Monday morning, he made a great catch after a nice pass from Vernon Adams Jr.... Dalton Ponchillia also managed to get open and catch a pass from Adams Jr. and run straight for the end zone... Jeff Mathews connected with speedster Quan Bray and completed a 60-yard-play... Zac Parker made a great catch after a pass was deflected by a defensive back. He did everything he possibly could to then catch the ball... Quarterback Matthew Shiltz proved he could run. Often on Monday, he ran with the ball while his receivers were well covered... Chris Brown caught a missile from Vernon Adams Jr. as he stretched as far as possible and finished by a dive, he stole the show.
He said it
"This game is another step in training camp. I'll have a lot of family and friends who will be in the stands and they are really excited to see me in an Alouettes' uniform. I am native from Valleyfield so the Alouettes were always my team growing up. I still remember watching games on TV with my dad, cheering for them. I do not take anything for granted because I am still far from my objective. I won't have any butterflies on that day, I will simply continue to keep it up on the same way."
