London Rippers News Release
WATERFORD, MICHIGAN - Training camp for the Inaugural Season of the London Rippers is underway.
The Rippers got down to business this morning, posing for pictures and meeting their new teammates, before starting the training/stretching portion of their regime.
General Manager/Field Manager, David Martin addressed the team before orientation began, stressing the players have fun and soak in the atmosphere.
"I told the boys to enjoy playing the game of baseball." Martin says, "We have around 40 guys in camp and this is the day they start writing the book of their pro experience with the Rippers. We want to make every chapter and every character a successful one."
Martin adds there are tough decisions to be made in the next few days, "We have a lot of talent here, but I've got to find the best team to put between the lines. The players we pick will hopefully flourish and turn London into a destination for baseball."
The Rippers will be practicing indoors today at the Summit Fieldhouse in Waterford, Michigan, then making their first appearance as the newly-renovated Diamonds of Jaycee Park in Pontiac, Michigan, tomorrow.
Two exhibition games are scheduled for May 11th and May 12th in Traverse City, against the Beach Bums, before the final roster is set.
The team will arrive in London on May 14th, in anticipation for their night practice at Labatt Park on May 15th and May 16th will feature Media Day at Labatt Park and a Meet and Greet at Jack Astor's at 88 Fanshawe Park Road East from 5pm until 7pm.
