Memphis Xplorers News Release

SOUTHAVEN, MS- The Memphis Xplorers of af2 concluded training camp this past weekend, as the team prepares for its season-opening melee at Birmingham this Saturday.

This year's 2004 Xplorers roster contains several players returning from last year, as well as several players that will be familiar to local football fans.

Headlining the Xplorers roster is Offensive Specialist Kevin Prentiss. The 5'8" speedster from Mississippi State returns for his second season with the Xplorers.

Also returning from last year's team are OL/DL Timothy Long, OL/DL Jason Bradford, OL/DL Joseph Crear, WR/LB Deumaine Reeder, and OL/DL Steven Valdez.

Under center for the Xplorers this season will be QB Brian Jones. The rookie from Toledo University has shown remarkable development over the course of training camp, and will look to follow in the successful footsteps of former Xplorers and Mid-American Conference QB Tim Lester.

Other notables on the Xplorers roster include former Memphis Tigers Ryan White (Kicker) and Shakorr Bryant (OL/DL), Mississippi State FB/LB Jamaal Dinkins, UT-Martin alumni Lavante Epson (FB/LB) and Deumaine Reeder (WR/LB), Tennessee Tech's Jason Bradford (OL/DL), Southern Miss's Nate Grace (OL/DL), and UT-Chattanooga's Carlos Locklyn (WR/DB).

Also making the team's practice squad are two players of international origin. WR/DB Toshihide Nakamura and QB Takeshi Shinjo were both impressive in camp, and will be able to provide valuable help to the Xplorers throughout the season.

All Xplorers practices and scrimmages are open to both the public and the media. The team's practices will occur at the DeSoto Civic Center at approximately 7:30 every evening, except for travel and game days. For more information, contact media relations director Galen Clavio at 662-342-1755.

All sixteen regular season Xplorers football games will be heard throughout the Mid-South on SportsPlus 790 WMC. In addition, all games will be broadcast on X-Cast, a special in-house radio broadcast designed specifically for the DeSoto Civic Center. X-Cast airs on 107.9 FM, and can be received while in the DeSoto Civic Center by using a walkman or other personal radio.

The first regular-season game broadcast for the Xplorers will take place on Saturday, April 10th at 6:45 pm, as Memphis starts the season on the road while taking on the Birmingham Steeldogs. The Xplorers' first home game will take place the following Saturday, April 17, as the green and gold tackle the Florida Firecats.

Season ticket packages are now on sale for the 2004 af2 season. For more information, contact the Xplorers office at 662-342-1755.
