Oshawa Generals News Release

The Generals travelled to Belleville tonight to take on the Bulls in a mid-week matchup. Despite the Generals maintaining a lead through the majority of the game, the Bulls had a comeback and took a 4-3 overtime win tonight.

Michael Dal Colle had a big game tonight and opened the Generals scoring at only 59 seconds into the first period. His goal was assisted by Tobias Lindberg and Michael McCarron. The first was high on penalties with eight being called through the period. Belleville took advantage of their first power play opportunity as Joe Manchurek was sitting on a check from behind call. Brett Welychka got the first Bulls goal past Appleby at 5:41, evening the score to 1-1 early in the first. The Generals returned the scoring however and at 15:34, Michael Dal Colle scored his second of the game on a Generals power play. Mitch Vande Sompel and Cole Cassels picked up the assists on his second goal. The first period closed with shots on goal almost even, the Generals with 13 and the Bulls with 12. The Generals headed to the locker room with a 2-1 lead over the Bulls.

The second period was very similar to the first with a lot of back and forth play between these two teams. Ken Appleby made a number of fantastic saves throughout the period, continuing to show his skills between the pipes. At 4:13, Cole Cassels was called for hooking and the Generals prepared for the penalty kill. It was the Generals who would find success on the Bulls power play as Dakota Mermis fired one past Graham, giving the Generals a 3-1 lead. His goal was assisted by Brent Pedersen and Michael McCarron. At 9:42, Appleby was put to the test when Nick Petti was awarded a penalty shot after Mistele threw his stick. Appleby stopped Petti and maintained the Generals 3-1 lead. Just minutes later, Trent Fox was successful in getting a goal past Appleby, assisted by Saigeon and Lemcke. An evenly matched period came to a close with the Generals carrying a one goal lead over the Bulls.

The third period was relatively low key until the final four minutes of the game. At 16:28, Tomasek managed to score and the game was tied 3-3 with only minutes remaining. The Generals couldn't put any more goals past Graham in regulation time and the game headed to overtime. Outstanding goaltending throughout overtime made it a nail biter, and neither team managed any more goals. Stephen Harper scored the game winner in the shootout, giving the Bulls a 4-3 victory. Generals shooters were Michael Dal Colle, Cole Cassels, and Michael McCarron. Niki Petti took the first shot for the Bulls.
