Lake Erie Crushers News Release
CRESTWOOD, ILLINOIS. - The Lake Erie Crushers, presented by Mercy, fell to Windy City on Wednesday night by the score of 5-0. The Crushers offense only manufactured seven hits as the ThunderBolts evened the series at a game a piece.
Windy City got on the board first in the second inning against Crushers starter Oriel Caicedo (1-3). Tyler Straub led off with a double and later advanced to third on a single by Blair Beck. On the next batter, Caicedo attempted a pickoff throw to first and Straub raced home to score the first run. Derek Bangert followed with a double and Windy City led 2-0.
The big blow came in the fourth inning when Beck hit a two-run home run against Caicedo. That was Beck's fifth home run against the Crushers this season and his 10th of the year.
Caicedo lasted just 4.2 innings and allowed four runs on seven hits in the loss.
ThunderBolts starter Braulio Torres-Perez (2-3) allowed seven hits through six innings but the Crushers couldn't come up with the timely hit. Lake Erie left nine men on base in the game. Torres-Perez also struck out nine in the game.
Windy City added a run in the sixth inning against Luke Watts to stretch their lead to 5-0. Branden Nunn struck out four through two scoreless innings for the Crushers as well.
Bryan DeLaRosa finished the game 2-3, extending his hitting streak to seven games. Terry McClure and Aaron Hill also tallied two hits in the loss.
The Crushers will look to take the series tomorrow when Micah Beyer (1-1) faces Eddie Avila (2-5) at 7:05 CDT. Lake Erie drops to 39-35 with the loss and Windy City goes to 32-43 with the win.
