Torres's Second Half Goal Powers Hartford to 2-1 Victory
September 5, 2020 - United Soccer League Championship (USL)
Hartford Athletic News Release
In the fourth meeting with Loudoun United this season, Athletic came out on top 2-1 thanks to a Gabi Torres winner!
The game didn't start in Athletic's favor. Loudoun took an early lead in the 4th minute. Josh Fawole tucked it past Goalkeeper Parfait Mandanda for his first career goal. Throughout the rest of the first half, it was an end to end contest. Both teams were piling on shots and getting quality chances respectfully.
In the 17th minute, Hartford made a chance count. Arthur Rogers saw an opening. The British Midfielder took a couple of touches and fired home a shot from well outside the box!
The second half started like the first half ended, in a chaotic fashion. Both teams were not finding it hard to register shots on goal. Ever Guzmán almost capitalized in the 50th minute off of a Loudoun mistake, but couldnt find the net.
Hartford continued to press and the pressure paid off. Alex Dixon and Guzmán went close, but in the 75th minute, it was a defender who popped up at the back post. Gabi Torres made a long run and was there to tap in an Alex Lara cross to give Hartford the lead in the 76th minute!
Hartford hung on to win their third game in four meetings against Loudoun. Up next, Hartford hits the road to play a vital game against division leaders Pittsburgh Riverhounds SC who are in first place in Group F, six points clear of Hartford.
