Milwaukee Wave News Release
(Milwaukee, WI) Putting together one of its most dominant efforts of the season, the Milwaukee Wave improved its Major Indoor Soccer League (MISL) best record to 9-3 with a 6-1 won over the defending champion Baltimore Blast Friday night (12/17) at U.S. Cellular Arena in Milwaukee, WI. The Wave has now defeated the Blast (4-8) two-out-of-three so far this season, with one more meeting scheduled between the clubs on April 24 in Milwaukee.
Although Baltimore struck first on a goal by P.J. Wakefield at 5:51 of the first quarter, the Blast had few scoring opportunities throughout the rest of the contest. The Wave controlled possession for most of the match as it out-shot Baltimore 42-19.
Kevin Burk scored Milwaukee's first goal at 7:55 of the first period off an assist from Joe Hammes. Burk started a three-goal run to the end of the period when rolled a left-footer past Blast goalkeeper Brian Rowland from the top of the penalty area to even the score at 1-1. Angel Rivillo tallied at 9:35 to put the Wave ahead 2-1, while Johnny Torres converted on a power play from Troy Dusosky at 11:33 of the first to make it 3-1.
Torres scored again early in the second quarter (3:10) to continue the Wave's scoring surge. After a scoreless third quarter, Burk registered his second goal at 1:21 of the fourth period to make it 5-1. Greg Howes capped off the scoring with blast just outside the penalty area at 6:15 of the fourth to account for the final score.
Nick Vorberg (7-1) stopped 5-of-6 shots faced to record the victory as he garnered his second 6-1 triumph over the Blast this season. Baltimore's Brian Rowland (2-3) posted an MISL season high 27 saves (of 33 shots faced) in taking the loss.
