
St. Louis Steams Past Cleveland, 9-3

ST. LOUIS, MO. -- The Cleveland Force traveled to the Show Me State and was defeated by the Major Indoor Soccer League (MISL) Central Division St. Louis Steamers by a final score of 9-3 at the Savvis Center.
With the loss, the Force fell to 4-6 overall, 2-3 versus Central Division opponents, 2-3 on the road, 1-1 in the season series and 41-37 all-time versus St. Louis. With the victory, the Steamers improved to 8-4 overall, 3-2 versus Eastern Division opponents and 5-3 at home.
St. Louis opened the scoring (0-1) when Aaron Susi took the pass from Randy Soderman and nailed a shot that bounced off Cleveland goalkeeper Jim Larkin's chest and into the net for the goal at 8:28 of the first quarter. The Steamers wasted no time to add to their lead (0-2) when Sterling Wescott was sitting on the back post an tapped in the rebound shot of Shaun David for the second score of the first period at 10:12.
St. Louis kept up the scoring attack and opened the second quarter scoring (0-3) when Daryl Doran took the cross from University of Akron graduate Mike Apple and tapped in the goal at 2:10. The Steamers added to their lead (0-4) when Addae Rique scored his first goal of the season off the first assist of the season for Jesse Elmore at 4:09. St. Louis found the back of the net once again (0-5) when Apple scored the unassisted goal at 5:25. The Steamers kept things going (0-6) when Doran scored his second goal of the game when he nailed a shot right through the legs of Larkin off the cross from Mali Walton at 14:03.
The Force snappped a 6-0 run by St. Louis and opened the second half scoring (1-6) when Josh Timbers scored his second goal of the season and second in two games at the 5:01 mark of the third quarter. Cleveland cut into the lead (2-6) when forward Antonio Sutton hit a shot through the legs of Steamers goalkeeper Brett Philips off the cross from defender and team captain John Ball at 11:29. The Force cut the lead to three (3-6) when Sutton scored his second goal of the game on a header off the cross from forward Chris Handsor at 14:13.
St. Louis snapped a 3-0 run by Cleveland and scored its first goal of the second half (3-7) when Susi scored his second goal of the game on the power play and penalty kick. The Steamers added to their lead (3-8) when Ibrahim Kante scored the goal in the empty net versus the Cleveland sixth attacker off the assist from Doran at 10:27. St. Louis kept things going (3-9) when former Cleveland defender Matt Caution scored his first goal of the season at 11:23.
The Force will not play for the next three weeks and will return after the Holidays when they play host to the Western Division Monterrey Tigres for the first time this season on Friday, January 7 at the Convocation Center at Cleveland State University.
