
Chicago Storm Signs Midfielder Gus Karterouliotis

Chicago (Friday, December 17, 2004) â The Chicago Storm of the Major Indoor Soccer League (MISL) announced today that the team has signed midfielder Gus Karterouliotis (pronounced: CAR-teh-ROO-lee-OH-tis) to a muti-year contract with the "Yellow and Black." Per league policy, terms of the contract were not disclosed. Karterouliotis will be available for tonight's match between the Storm and Eastern Division-leading Philadelphia KiXX at 7:30 p.m. CT at the UIC Pavilion in Chicago.
"We are very excited to have Gus on the team," said Storm Head Coach and General Manager Frank Klopas. "He is a player, who plays at a very high level and will be able to bring a lot to our team. Gus is also a very young player with a lot of potential and a big future ahead of him."
Karterouliotis began his professional career in 1997 when he signed a contract with Olympiakos of the Greek first division making him the youngest player in team history at 16. The midfielder joined the Tampa Bay Mutiny of Major League Soccer (MLS) for the 2001 season and played in 18 games (five starts) for the club. The Chicago-born Karterouliotis has also appeared for the United States U-17, U-18 and U-20 national teams.
"I am really looking forward to playing for Frank Klopas and the Storm," said Karterouliotis. "He's a great coach, he was a great player when he played and bottom line is that he is a great guy too, so I am very excited to be playing for him. I am in a great city here in Chicago and the game is just fun to play, indoor is very exciting for the fans. You can never count any team out of a game, the team can be down by five goals at the start of the fourth quarter and you still can't count them out.

The box office is open from 12:00 noon until 6:00 p.m. Monday to Friday and 10:00 a.m. through 4:00 p.m. on Saturday.
