
Toros Split Two-Game Series with Vipers

AUSTIN, TX - The Austin Toros fell to the Rio Grande Valley Vipers Saturday night at the Austin Convention Center, losing 109-102 and splitting the two-game series with their in-state rivals. The Toros season record now stands at 1-1.
The game was tied at 28 at the end of the first quarter. Guard Russell Carter led the Toros in the quarter with nine points, hitting seven of eight from the free throw line.
The two teams continued to battle back and forth in the second quarter, with 12 lead changes coming in the quarter alone. Jonathan Wallace nailed a long two-pointer at the buzzer to put the Vipers up 51-50 at the half. Michael Harris led the Vipers with 18 points at the half.
The Vipers came out strong after half time, leading the Toros for the entire third quarter and pulled ahead with a nine point lead with just under a minute left in the quarter. Dorsey had 13 points and eight of his 17 rebounds in the quarter for the Vipers, while Dwayne Jones led the Toros with 11 points in the quarter.
The Toros trailed the Vipers for the entire second half, but closed the deficit to four points with 27 seconds left in the game after Gee made two free throws. The Vipers were able to pull away after hitting five free throws down the stretch.
Five Toros players scored in double figures, led by Gee with 23, Carter 19, Curtis Jerrells 18, Jones 17, and Justin Bowen 15.
The Vipers were led by Harris, who poured in 28 points, and Dorsey who ended the game with 22 points.
The Toros return to play on December 1 against the Tulsa 66ers at 7:30 p.m. at the Austin Convention Center.
