AUSTIN, TX - Marcus Williams scored 26 points and the Austin Toros defeated the Albuquerque Thunderbirds 106-101 on Tuesday night at the Austin Convention Center. The Toros had five players scoring in double figures and improved to 23-9 on the season, the best record in the NBA D-League.
Ezra Williams hit a 3-point basket with 30 seconds remaining in the fourth quarter to give the Toros a 101-100 advantage. The Toros trailed the entire quarter until the bucket by Williams gave the team its first lead and free throws by Williams would help secure the win for Austin.
"Tonight was a really gutsy win against a team that has been playing well," Toros head coach Quin Snyder said. "It was a great effort by our guys."
Albuquerque was led in scoring by guard Will Conroy, who added 25 points and 5 assists. Conroy was 10-of-18 from the field and 4-of-5 from the free throw line. David Monds and Jasper Johnson each added 22 for the Thunderbirds who drop to 16-13 on the season.
Four of the five starters for Austin scored in double figures. Dwayne Jones scored 18 points and collected 14 rebounds in his first start of the season. Ezra Williams added 16 points and Carldell Johnson finished with 16 points and six assists.
The Toros finish their three game home stand on Thursday night at 7:30 p.m. against the Albuquerque Thunderbirds. For more information, please call 512-236-8333 or visit austintoros.com.
