Toros' Last-Second Shot Dooms 66ers

TULSA, Okla., April 6, 2007 - The Tulsa 66ers closed their home season losing 99-97 to the Austin Toros Friday night at Expo Square Pavilion.

With :51 remaining in the fourth quarter, Jeff Varem scored a layup, tying the game 97-97. Austin's Troy Bell, fought back and scored the winning shot at the buzzer.

The Toros (21-25) were led in scoring by forward Justin Bowen with 27 points on 11-of-18 shooting, adding 10 rebounds for a double-double. Also scoring in double-figures were Bell with 20 points, and Jamar Smith and Brock Gillespie both for 15.

Tulsa was paced by Desmon Farmers' game-high 32 points. With Will Conroy being called up to the Los Angeles Clippers today, it was Jeremy Kelly who took the point guard lead to add 14 points and the game-high 9 assists. Jean Felix grabbed the team's only double-double with 14 points and 11 rebounds. Varem (16) and Frans Steyn (11) also scored in the double-figures.

The Toros led in scoring with 47 percent, compared to Tulsa's 41 percent from the pine. Austin also shot better from behind the arch with 6-of-15 to Tulsa's 7-of-27. It was Tulsa who took the points from the charity stripe, hitting 85 percent of their free throws, compared to Austin's 68 percent. The 66ers slightly outrebounded the Toros, 45-40.

Tulsa will finish out their 2006-07 regular season on the road. The 66ers will go to Arkansas to take on the RimRockers Saturday night. Tipoff is slated for 7 p.m.
