Austin Spurs News Release

Austin, TX December 4, 2012 - The Austin Toros announced today that Spurs Legend Sean Elliott will be the Toros special guest on December 22 as the Toros take on the Sioux Falls Skyforce at Cedar Park Center starting at 7:30pm. Elliott is a two-time NBA All-Star (1993 and 1996). His jersey has been retired by both the Spurs and the University of Arizona, where he played college basketball. Elliott spent 11 of his 12 NBA seasons with the Spurs and will always be remembered for the Memorial Day Miracle where the Spurs trailed the Trail Blazers 85-83 with 12 seconds left in Game 2 of the Western Conference Finals when he caught an inbounds pass and literally tip-toed the out of bounds line while sinking a 24-foot three-pointer. The victory propelled the Spurs to their first NBA Championship.

One month after the 1999 NBA Championship, Elliott announced that he would need a kidney transplant and on July 21, 1999 he received a kidney from his older brother, Noel. Eight months later, Elliott became the first NBA player to return to action after a major organ transplant. In 11 seasons with the Spurs, he appeared in 669 regular season games, averaging 14.4 points, 4.4 rebounds and 2.5 assists and is one of just eight Spurs to appear in 600-plus games. He is currently the color commentator for the Spurs.

Prior to tipoff, Elliott will speak to the Austin community with a message of inspiration and educational encouragement for youth. Doors will open at 5pm and Elliott will speak at 5:30pm.

Toros tickets start as low as $5. For more information, please visit austintoros.com or call (512) 236-8333.
