BOISE, Idaho (March 5, 2008) - Marcus Williams scored 32 points and grabbed 10 rebounds to lead the Austin Toros to a 105-102 NBA Development League victory over the Idaho Stampede in Boise on Wednesday night.
In a seesaw battle, which featured 17 lead changes and 12 ties, the final lead change came on an impressive reverse lay-up by Marcus Williams, with 36.3 seconds remaining in the game, to put the Toros on top, 103-101. Carldell Johnson made two free throws, to seal the victory for the Toros. The victory improved Austin to 24-11 on the season, while Idaho dropped to 26-10.
"We played hard out there tonight," Stampede Head Coach Bryan Gates said. "We just didn't execute when it mattered most."
Austin had four players score in double figures. Justin Bowen, came off the bench, and ended up with a double-double, dropping in 19 points and grabbing 10 rebounds. Cheyne Gadson also finished with a double-double, scoring 16 points and dishing out 10 assists. DerMarr Johnson shot the ball very well outside, scoring 18 of his 25 points from beyond the three-point line.
The Stampede were led by Center Mouhamed Sene. Sene, on an NBA assignment from the Seattle Supersonics, made the most of his first start of the season, scoring a season-high 30 points and pulling down 18 rebounds. Lance Allred finished with his 18th double-double of the season, scoring 13 points and grabbing 12 rebounds.
The Stampede dominated the game inside, out-scoring the Toros 68-42 in the paint. However, the Toros were hot from outside, going 56% (9-16) in the victory.
Idaho will stay at home, playing Utah in Boise, on Friday and Saturday night. Austin will look to extend their winning streak to five as they take on Albuquerque on Saturday night.
