
Toronto Returns to Richmond

RICHMOND, VA â (Wednesday, May 5, 2004) â The Richmond Kickers are pleased to host the Toronto Lynx this Thursday, May 6th at the University of Richmond Stadium at 7:00pm. The Lynx will face the Kickers in Richmond for the first time since a 1-1 draw on April 26, 2002. Overall, the Kickers hold a 5-3-2 record versus the Lynx.
Richmond will be Toronto's first stop in Virginia as they will travel to Virginia Beach, Saturday, May 8th. Toronto brings a 1-1-0 record to Richmond after defeating Puerto Rico in their season opener, then falling to Rochester with a 4-0 deficit.
"Toronto has always been a tough, competitive battle and we expect the same intensity this time around," says Richmond Kickers head coach, Leigh Cowlishaw. "The team had a successful weekend and we wish to build on that momentum by securing our first home win of the season."
Richmond enters into the match with a 1-1-2 record after a back-to-back series versus Virginia Beach last weekend. The Kickers came away with four points (a 1-1 home tie and a 2-0 away win) over the Mariners and a position in the third round of the 2004 Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup to be played on Wednesday, June 30th (time, opponent and venue to be determined).
Players to Watch
Kickers: Rookie forward, Matthew Delicâte scored his first professional goal in the 2-0 win over Virginia Beach last weekend. Joey Worthen put points on the board for the third consecutive game with an assist on the game winning goal by 2003 Kickers leading scorer, Kevin Jeffrey. Worthen is currently leading the A-League in points with five and earned Team of the Week honors for the second week in a row. Most recently, goalkeeper Ronnie Pascale completed 11 saves in an effort to shut out Virginia Beach.
Lynx: 2003 Lynx leader in goals (6) and points (14), striker Ali Gerba scored the game winning goal in the Toronto season opener in Puerto Rico. Josue Mayard was second on Lynx in minutes played (2303) and the highest scoring defender with two goals in 2003. He is also a vital component of the Haitian National Team. Returning to Toronto after starting 11 of 13 games in 2003 for the NY/NJ Metrostars (MLS), Edgar Bartolomeu played a total of 11 games for the Lynx during the 1999 and 2000 seasons.

Former Kicker, defender Rumbani Munthali returns to Richmond on the Toronto roster. "Rumba" played in 38 games with the Kickers over two seasons (2001-02) for a total of 2,715 minutes.
