Toronto FC Sign Three Toronto FC II Players to Short-Term Agreements Ahead of Nashville Match

Toronto FC announced today that the club has signed Toronto FC II midfielders Charlie Staniland and Jesús Batiz, and forward Charlie Sharp to MLS short-term agreements for Wednesday's MLS regular season match against Nashville SC. Per MLS rules, the short-term agreement allows clubs to sign players on loan from their MLS NEXT Pro affiliate for MLS, U.S. Open Cup, Concacaf Champions League, Canadian Championship, Leagues Cup and exhibition matches.
Staniland, 19, receives his first call-up to the First Team after recently signing with Toronto FC II on April 18, 2024. The midfielder made his TFC II debut against New England Revolution II on April 19 and has made four appearances for the Young Reds in MLS NEXT Pro action. Staniland joined Toronto FC II from Sheffield United, where he came through the youth ranks before signing his first professional contract with the Blades in the summer of 2023.
Batiz, 24, signed with Toronto FC II on March 21, 2023, and made his debut with the Young Reds against FC Cincinnati 2 on March 27, 2023. This season, Batiz has appeared and started in five matches for Toronto FC II, scoring two goals and recording two assists in MLS NEXT Pro action. The Tela, Honduras native has made four appearances with Toronto FC recording a total of 166 minutes across four matches, including his First Team debut against Orlando City on July 4, 2023. Most recently, Batiz made his first Canadian Championship appearance for the Reds on May 8 in the first leg of the quarter-final match against CS Saint-Laurent.
Sharp, 22, was originally selected 61 st overall (third round) by Toronto FC in the 2023 MLS SuperDraft. A forward from Western Michigan University, Sharp signed with Toronto FC II on February 15, 2024, and made his debut against Columbus Crew 2 on April 7 . The Brighton, Michigan native has made four appearances and scored a team-leading three goals for the Young Reds during the 2024 MLS NEXT Pro season.
