Toronto FC Select Four Players in 2024 MLS SuperDraft Presented by Adidas

Toronto FC announced today that the club made a total of four selections in the 2024 MLS SuperDraft presented by adidas including Tyrese Spicer from Lipscomb University with the first overall pick. The Club also selected defender Joey Maher from Indiana University with the 30th overall pick (first pick, second round), midfielder Patrick McDonald from Indiana University with the 59th overall pick (first pick, third round) and midfielder Fletcher Bank from Stanford University with the 85th overall pick (27th pick, third round).

Maher, 22, spent the past four seasons at Indiana University, where he scored six goals and helped the Hoosiers keep 40 clean sheets through 85 appearances (83 starts). The Caseyville, Illinois native served as team captain in 2023 and led the Hoosiers to become Big Ten regular season and Big Ten Tournament champions, earning First-Team All-North Region and First-Team All-Big Ten honours along the way as a senior. He also became a Big Ten regular season and Big Ten Tournament champion as a freshman and was named to the NCAA All-Tournament Team and Big Ten All-Freshman Team during the 2020-2021 season. Maher was a three-time Academic All-Big Ten honouree (2021, 2022, 2023) during his time with the Hoosiers. Before Indiana, Maher joined the St. Louis FC Academy in 2017 and made 42 career appearances for the club. He also served as team captain and led the Academy to a third-place finish in the U.S. Soccer Development Academy (USSDA) playoffs in 2019.

McDonald, 20, spent the past three seasons at Indiana University, where he registered six goals and eight assists through 69 appearances (57 starts). The Greensboro, North Carolina native earned First-Team All-Big Ten honours as a junior, as he helped the Hoosiers win the Big Ten regular season and Big Ten Tournament during the 2023 season. Prior to Indiana, McDonald spent time with Indy Eleven of the USL Championship, along with the Indiana Fire Academy and North Carolina Fusion at the youth level.

Bank, 20, spent the past two seasons at Stanford University, where he registered four goals and 13 assists through 31 appearances (29 starts). As a sophomore, the Bakersfield, California native was named to the All-Pac-12 First Team and earned CSC Academic All-District honours in 2023 after helping the Cardinal to their best NCAA tournament finish since 2019. Prior to Stanford, Bank attended Garces Memorial High School in California and was a three-time captain (2019-2021), leading the team to the CIF SoCal Regional championship (2019), the CIF Central Section championship (2019, 2020, 2021) and the Southwest Yosemite League championship (2019, 2020).
