
Toronto FC Loan Forward Ayo Akinola to San Jose Earthquakes

Toronto FC announced today that the club has loaned forward Ayo Akinola to San Jose Earthquakes for the remainder of the 2023 Major League Soccer season. As part of the trade, Toronto FC will receive a 2023 international roster slot while the Earthquakes will have the option to exercise a permanent transfer for Akinola through 2024 at the end of his loan.
Akinola, 23, was in his sixth season with Toronto FC where he appeared in 15 games for the Reds. The Brampton, Ontario native has made a combined 91 appearances across all competitions scoring 18 goals since joining the club as a Homegrown Player on December 18, 2017. During the 2020 MLS season, Akinola registered a team-high nine goals in 15 appearances for the Reds, helping the team finish with the second-best record in the MLS regular season. He made his MLS debut against Minnesota United on July 5, 2018, and recorded his first MLS goal against New England Revolution on March 17, 2019.
TRANSACTION: Toronto FC acquire a 2023 international slot from San Jose Earthquakes. In exchange, TFC send forward Ayo Akinola on loan to the Earthquakes for the remainder of the 2023 MLS season with an option to exercise a permanent transfer for Akinola through 2024 at the end of his loan.
