New England Revolution News Release
FOXBOROUGH, Mass. - The New England Revolution host LIGA MX club Atlético de San Luis in Leagues Cup 2023 group stage play on Wednesday night at Gillette Stadium. New England's second and final Group East 4 match kicks off at 7:30 p.m. ET and is free to watch on Apple TV. Callum Williams and Calen Carr will call the match in English, while Bruno Vain and Andres Agulla will provide Spanish commentary. Wednesday's match can also be heard on the radio locally in Portuguese on 1260 AM Nossa Radio USA.
With a victory in regulation over Atlético de San Luis on Wednesday, the Revolution will advance to the Leagues Cup Round of 32 knockout stage. If New England draws in regulation and wins the ensuing penalty kick shootout, the Revolution will await the result of Saturday's group stage finale between the Red Bulls and Atlético de San Luis. If New England falls in regulation or via shootout, the Revolution would be eliminated from the tournament as the third-place finisher in the group.
New England opened its Leagues Cup campaign with a 0-0 draw at the New York Red Bulls last Saturday, claiming one point from the match after falling in the penalty shootout. New England was guided by a three-save performance from 2023 MLS All-Star goalkeeper Djordje Petrović en route to the club's second straight shutout, its eighth across all competitions this season. In the midfield, Mark-Anthony Kaye made his Revolution debut, while Ian Harkes logged his fourth consecutive appearance. Homegrown Player Noel Buck also returned to the starting lineup, his first appearance since June 17 due to injury.
The Revolution host a Liga MX opponent for the second consecutive season, after New England defeated Pumas UNAM, 3-0, at Gillette Stadium in Leg 1 of quarterfinal round of the 2022 Concacaf Champions League. New England owns an 8-2-1 all-time record against Liga MX opponents, including an 8-1-1 mark in games played at Gillette Stadium. Wednesday's match is the first meeting between the Revolution and Atlético de San Luis, which owns a 1-1-1 record through its first three matches in the LIGA MX season. Founded in 2013, Atlético de San Luis is managed by Gustavo Leal, who took over Los Atléticos in June.
New England enters the match with an unbeaten home record in regular season play at 9-0-3. The Revolution are in solid form with a 5-1-2 record over the last eight matches. New England's roster features two players with LIGA MX experience in forward Gustavo Bou and defender Omar Gonzalez. Bou, the fourth-leading scorer in MLS since his arrival in July 2019, spent parts of three seasons with Club Tijuana from 2017-19 before transferring to New England, while Gonzalez was a LIGA MX title winner with Pachuca and also featured for Atlas from 2016-19.
