June 11, 2020 - Major League Soccer (MLS)
Toronto FC News Release
Toronto FC will compete with D.C. United, Montreal Impact and the New England Revolution in Group C of the MLS Is Back tournament, beginning July 8 in Orlando, Florida at the ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex. The tournament draw was held this afternoon.
"We are looking forward to getting back into games and competing. We have a tough group and the three matches will be important and have value for not only the tournament but also for the regular season," said Toronto FC Head Coach Greg Vanney. "The league and players have done a nice job of making the most of a difficult situation by getting this tournament off of the ground, and there's no better way to re-engage our fan base than a meaningful match against Montreal."
Toronto FC was one of six top-seeded teams heading into the draw. The tournament will feature six groups divided by conference. Groups A, C and E will feature teams in the Eastern Conference while Groups B, D, F will feature teams from the Western Conference. The tournament will begin with the group stage on Wednesday, July 8. The top two teams in each group along with the top four third-place teams will advance into the Round of 16. The finals are set for Tuesday, August 11 with the winner of the tournament receiving a spot in the Concacaf Champions League.
The complete tournament schedule along with broadcast information will be announced at a later date.
