Worcester Tornadoes News Release

LITTLE FALLS, NJ--- The Worcester Tornadoes threw away a 5-1 lead in game one of today's double header against New Jersey (the Jackals franchise best fourteenth straight win), but were able to prevail in the nightcap 3-1.

Game one started extremely well for Worcester, as the orange and black hopped out to an early 5-1 lead behind four strong innings from newly acquired right handed starter Chris Farley (0-0) and RBI's from a host of Tornadoes; Garrett Olson, Heath Keel, Jeff LaHair, Vinny Pennell and Carlos Sosa. However the Jackals, fresh off an eight run come from behind victory against the Quebec Capitales, would have something to say. They plated three in the fifth and four in the sixth to take a 9-6 lead into the top of the seventh. The most notable run-scoring hit was delivered by league-best hitting Myron Leslie's, whose two run jack cleared everything in right field. Rusty Tucker was unavailable after a one game suspension was levied against him for hitting 1B/DH Eddie Lantigua in Quebec in the ninth inning of that same comeback game, but Seth Overbey (SV 2) was more than willing to pick up the slack. Santiago Ramirez (2-1) picked up the loss, his first of the season. NJ submarine-tossing righty Kevin Gunter (2-0) received the win.

In game two the Tornadoes again drew first blood with Nick Salotti singling his teammate Chris Colabello home in the top of the fourth. New Jersey had Matt Lauderdale's RBI single as an answer in the home half of that frame. Heath Keel drove in a run in the fifth and then a final insurance run in the seventh, and that was plenty for closer Anthony Sullivan.

Sullivan picked up his seventh save, good for second in the league, in a one-two-three ninth in relief of Josef Frias (1-0) who sparkled in his first start in a Tornadoes uniform (6IP, ER, 5K). Giuseppe Granitto (0-1) was good as well, but was saddled with the tough luck loss.

Tomorrow night game three of the series will feature lefty Ryan Lobban (3-1) for Worcester against 6' 7" Stuart Pomeranz (0-0) for the Jackals. First pitch at 7:05, pre game begins on WTAG at 6:50.
