Worcester Sharks News Release
Worcester, MA April 24, 2009 -- The Worcester Tornadoes have announced that all 94 regular season game broadcasts will again be heard on 580 AM and 94.9 FM WTAG in 2009.
"I am very excited to continue our partnership with WTAG for the upcoming season. We have a wide fan base throughout Worcester County, and this partnership will allow our fans to tune in to our games on both AM and FM," said Jorg Bassiacos, Executive Vice President and General Manager of the Worcester Tornadoes.
WTAG will carry all 94 regular season games, 2 exhibition games, and any potential Can Am League playoff games involving the Tornadoes. All broadcasts can also be heard online at WTAG.com. The radio station is now in its 85th year of broadcasting, and is the home of radio personalities Jim Polito, Glenn Beck, Rush Limbaugh, and Jordan Levy.
"WTAG is all about Worcester and Worcester County, and a large part of what makes this area great is our local sports," said Program Director George Brown. "That's why we are happy to continue our partnership with the Tornadoes. There's nothing like baseball on the radio in the summer, and we all look forward to enjoying the games- whether listening in the ball park or in the backyard."
The Tornadoes will also introduce a new broadcaster for their 5th Anniversary Season when they welcome Pete Sachs to the booth. Sachs is a 2009 graduate of Ithaca College, where he provided play-by-play for baseball, softball, and basketball on WICB-FM. He's also worked for FOX Sports in Los Angeles and provided fill-in color commentary on Tornadoes broadcasts during the 2007 season.
Fans will also be able to tune in to WTAG to hear "This Week with the Tornadoes," with host Sherman Whitman on Sunday mornings from 7:00 - 7:30. A "Coaches Corner" segment with Manager Rich Gedman is slated to air during the WTAG Morning News with Jim Polito.
"The Tornadoes are an important part of a hot summer night in Worcester. We are proud to be a part of it and to help them be one of the many great family-fun reasons to be in Worcester in the summer!!" said Sean Davey, Vice President / Market Manager of Clear Channel Worcester.
The Worcester Tornadoes home opener is Thursday, June 4th at 7:05 PM against New Hampshire. Tickets for all games go on sale Saturday, April 25th at 9:00 AM.
