Peter Regin and Ryan Shannon Begin Play at 2009 IIHF World Hockey Championship

BINGHAMTON, N.Y. - 2008-09 Binghamton Senators' players Peter Regin and Ryan Shannon will begin play this weekend at the 2009 IIHF World Hockey Championship in Zurich, Switzerland.

Regin, 23, will represent his home country of Denmark at the World Championship. Denmark battles the Czech Republic in the preliminary round on Saturday, Apr. 25. Regin collected 47 points (18+29) in 56 games with Binghamton during the 2008-09 season, his first in North America. The centerman also led the B-Sens with a +15 rating.

Recalled twice this season by Ottawa, Regin registered one goal, one assist and two penalty minutes in 11 games with the NHL club.

Shannon, 26, will represent the United States at the World Championship. The U.S. will face off with Latvia in the preliminary round on Saturday, Apr. 25. The Darien, Conn., native netted 10 goals and 25 assists in just 36 games this season with Binghamton. Shannon tallied 21 of his 35 points on the power play, helping Binghamton secure the top power-play unit in the league.

The right-winger also skated in 35 games with Ottawa, collecting eight goals and 12 assists.
