Worcester Tornadoes News Release
WORCESTER, MA--- For the second night in a row, the Tornadoes blew a ninth inning lead en route to an eleventh inning loss to the Sussex SkyHawks 4-3.
Worcester jumped out to a 3-0 score scoring single runs in the first, third, and seventh to support Jusef Frias. Frias tossed eight innings of one run baseball striking out seven and allowing four hits. His counterpart Tim Stringer also produced a quality three run through six-inning start.
The story again began in the top of the ninth for Sussex. Hal Lanier's club put together a pair of runs against Santiago Ramirez who had come on for the save. Ron Perodin drove in the first run, his first hit of the night, while the second run scored on a passed ball charged to the catcher Yohanny Valera.
Fast-forward to the eleventh and it was Eddie Pena (2-4) pitching in a third consecutive game allowing a single to Ryan Crespi and an RBI double to Jorge Moreno. The Tornadoes were silenced by Greg Lane (SV 2); the very man who blew the save on Monday night. Sandy Nin (3-7) with a pair of strikeouts in a scoreless ninth and tenth gets the win.
In the 2009 finale against the SkyHawks, it will be the third start for Baron Short (0-2) against familiar Sussex hurler Mike Schellinger (4-7).
