Iowa Cubs News Release

DES MOINES, IA - The Iowa Cubs (22-34) got ahead in the first but couldn't keep the lead as the Albuquerque Isotopes (30-28) collected a 5-1 victory, Tuesday at Principal Park.

David Bote rocked a first-inning homer to put Iowa on top from the start. It was Bote's team-leading eighth of the season and Iowa's first long ball in eight days.

Jen-Ho Tseng got off to a strong start, holding the Isotopes scoreless through four. Pat Valaika, brother of Iowa hitting coach Chris Valaika, foiled the shutout in the fifth with a towering solo shot.

By way of a Raimel Tapia triple, a Garrett Hampson walk and a double steal of home and second base, the Isotopes captured the lead in the sixth. A Josh Fuentes RBI double boosted the lead to 2-1 in the inning.

Tseng got into trouble in the seventh as the righty loaded the bags with no outs. He forced a pop up before surrendering the ball to Anthony Bass. Bass promptly gave up a double off the wall to Jordan Patterson as Albuquerque plated another two runs. Tseng would finish his night with 7.1 innings pitched, five runs allowed - four earned - and seven strikeouts. He took the loss to fall to 2-6 on the season.

Iowa couldn't catch up as they were held to five hits in the game. Bote and Efren Navarro notched two hits each.

Iowa and Albuquerque play the middle game of the set at 12:08 p.m. tomorrow at Principal Park. For more information or tickets, visit www.iowacubs.com.
