
Top Prospect David Price assigned to Durham

DURHAM, NC-The Tampa Bay Rays have announced David Price, the first overall pick in the 2007 First-Year Player Draft and the game's top prospect according to Baseball America, will start for the Durham Bulls Wednesday, August 13 at the Durham Bulls Athletic Park. He will make his Triple-A debut against the Norfolk Tides at 7:05 p.m.
Price had been pitching for Tampa Bay's Double-A affiliate in Montgomery, AL, where he was 7-0 in nine starts with a 1.89 earned run average. In 57.0 innings he had 55 strikeouts and held opponents to a .206 batting average. Earlier this year he made his professional debut with Single-A Vero Beach, where he was 4-0 with a 1.82 ERA, striking out 37 and holding batters to a .220 average in 34.2 innings.
Price first appeared at the Durham Bulls Athletic Park in 2005 as a member of the USA Baseball Collegiate National Team. He went 2-0 with a 1.26 ERA in five games, tallying 39 strikeouts and 13 walks over 28 2/3 innings. In the summer of 2006, Price helped the United States take home the gold medal in the World University Championships held in Cuba. In eight starts for the U.S., Price was 5-1 with a 0.20 ERA.
