Louisville Bats News Release

Louisville, KY - One day after having their eight-game winning streak snapped, the Louisville Bats got back on the winning track with a 3-0 victory over the Columbus Clippers at Louisville Slugger Field. Starting pitcher Bobby Livingston threw seven shutout innings to help the team improve to 9-1 in the month of August, while also earning the team's 74th victory of the year, matching last season's win total.

Louisville got the scoring started in the third inning when Chris Dickerson, Luis Bolivar, and Drew T. Anderson all hit consecutive singles, with Anderson's base hit scoring Dickerson. Despite playing in only nine games thus far in August, Anderson already has 11 RBIs for the month. Later in the inning, Kevin Barker's sacrifice fly scored Bolivar, staking Livingston an early 2-0 lead.

In the bottom of the sixth, the Bats added an insurance run, when Craig Tatum belted a sacrifice fly to left that scored Michael Griffin. After being transferred to Louisville from Chattanooga earlier in the day, Tatum went 1-for-3 with an RBI in his triple-A debut.

Those three runs were more than enough for Livingston, who gave up just five hits and walked two. Livingston, who underwent shoulder surgery last September to repair a torn labrum, also fanned six in what was by far the best of his five starts since joining the Bats in mid-July.

After allowing just two hits through the first four innings, the Louisville infield provided a big boost for Livingston from the fifth inning on, turning double plays in three consecutive frames that helped thwart Columbus rallies. Jon Adkins worked the ninth for his 22nd save of the year, which currently ranks second among International League pitchers.

The Bats notched seven hits on the night, all of which were singles. Bolivar extended his hitting streak to seven games with a two-hit night, while also stealing his 13th base of the season.

Clippers' starter Mike Bacsik (7-5, 4.43) was dealt the loss, going four innings while giving up two earned runs and six hits. He walked one and struck out two.

The Bats will conclude their eight-game homestand and four-game series against the Clippers on Monday evening with a 7:05PM first pitch at Louisville Slugger Field. RHP Justin Mallett (5-2, 4.80) will make the start for Louisville, and LHP Mike O'Connor (5-2, 2.03) will go for Columbus.
