Top Line Puts on a Show in 8-4 Win in Charlottetown

The Saint John Sea Dogs (39-17-1-3) beat the Charlottetown Islanders (40-12-7-0) 8-4 in a high scoring weeknight matchup on Thursday. The Sea Dogs top line was clicking with four points for Josh Lawrence, three for William Dufour, and two for Brady Burns as William Dufour tied the record for most points in a single season by a Sea Dog with 105. Raivis Kristians Ansons opened the scoring, Josh Lawrence and Brady Burns scored two goals each, William Dufour found the back of the net, and empty net goals from Charlie DesRoches and Philippe Daoust capped off the win on the road.

Thomas Couture got the start for Saint John, making 25 saves on 29 shots. Francesco Lapenna started for Charlottetown, allowing five goals on 13 shots, before Oliver Satny took his place in net, facing six shots and allowing one goal.

It was a physical game from the start in Charlottetown. At 3:49, Riley Bezeau and Patrick Guay were sent off for roughing, a minor for Bezeau and a double minor for Guay, sending the Sea Dogs to a power play.

They did not score on the power play, but it was not long until Saint John struck. Raivis Kristians Ansons found the back of the net, picking up a feed from Cam MacDonald alone in front of the Islanders netminder at 6:32.

Brady Burns struck next, rushing the offensive zone on a two-on-one with Josh Lawrence to score his 22nd goal of the season.

A high sticking major to Owen Saye at 15:43 sent the Sea Dogs to a power play for the remainder of the period and William Dufour capitalised on the advantage to score his 49th goal of the season, ripping a shot from the top of the circle with 34 seconds remaining in the period.

Shots after the first were 9-6 for Saint John.

A cross-checking minor to Xavier Simoneau after the buzzer in the first started the Sea Dogs off on a power play in the second period. Again, they were able to find the back of the net, this time Josh Lawrence got on the scoresheet, deking his way around the netminder.

At 5:31, Brady Burns scored his second of the night, firing a shot through the screening Islanders defenseman for Saint John's fifth of the night.

Rushing the zone alone with speed, Josh Lawrence scored his second of the period at 9:07, making it 6-0 with a wrap-around goal.

Xavier Simoneau scored the Islanders' first of the night at 15:55 and the teams would go into the final frame with a 6-1 game.

Shots after two were 15-13 for Saint John.

Charlottetown's leading scorer Patrick Guay got on the scoresheet and cut the Sea Dogs lead to four 6:08 into the period. Lukas Cormier added his own at 11:49, his 27th of the season.

An empty net goal by Charlie DesRoches with 4:01 remaining in the period sealed the deal. 20 seconds later, former Sea Dog Dawson Stairs scored, making it 7-4.

Philippe Daoust added another empty net goal for the Sea Dogs, ending the scoring and winning the game 8-4 for the Sea Dogs.

Final shots were 29-21 for Charlottetown.
