Omaha Lancers News Release

RALSTON, NE - In front of a sellout crowd of 3,381 at Ralston Arena on Friday, the Omaha Lancers defeated the Tri-City Storm by an 8-3 final score in their first game back following an extended holiday break. With the win, the Lancers improved to 21-4-3 overall this season and 6-0-0 head-to-head against Tri-City. With 45 points, Omaha remains alone atop the Western Conference and overall USHL standings.

In a thrilling first period, the Lancers got the scoring started at 3:30 when Jake Randolph snaked home a rebound tally on feeds from Tyler Vesel and Gage Hough. Then at 5:59, it was Brian Williams depositing a Louie Rowe rebound on the near doorstep to make it 2-0 Lancers. After Christian Horn cut the Omaha lead in half at 10:30, the Lancers re-extended their edge to 3-1 on a Ryan Tait power-play goal at 12:32, from Luca Frigo and Jakob Forsbacka-Karlsson, before Hough capped the period with a breakaway finish at 17:41, assisted by Vesel.

In the middle frame, the Omaha onslaught continued with Hough picking up right where he left off, ripping home his second goal of the game just 23 seconds into the period thanks to a terrific tic-tac-toe setup from Tucker Poolman and Randolph. After Poolman added a sharp-angle power-play score at 2:48 courtesy of Randolph and Vesel, Horn struck again for the Storm at 5:03 for his second power-play marker of the evening to draw Tri-City within four at 6-2. Unsatisfied with that margin, the Lancers added a second Randolph goal at 11:25 for good measure, thanks to a seeing-eye centering feed from Anthony Angello that came courtesy of Vesel.

In a comparatively low-scoring third period, the Storm struck quickly thanks to an Austin Poganski goal 33 seconds in, but Omaha's Vesel capped off a five point night with his first score of the evening, a laser-like, roof-daddy riser to make it 8-3, establishing the Lancers' final margin of victory.

Next up for the Lancers, it's a Saturday clash with their archrival Lincoln Stars at the Lincoln IceBox Arena at 7:05 pm. Full coverage of Saturday's game begins with the "Valpak Pregame Show" at 6:50 pm on the Lancers' flagship station, "The Mighty" 1290 KOIL with Lancers broadcaster Tony Brown providing the play-by-play.
