Jacksonville Sharks News Release

JACKSONVILLE - The Jacksonville Sharks announced Friday that quarterback Tommy Grady will return to the team on a two-year contract, as Grady has been assigned to the Jacksonville roster. Per team policy, terms of the deal were not disclosed.

"Tommy has proven himself to be a top quarterback in this league," Sharks head coach Les Moss said. "We were able to do some great things last year, and we are very excited that Tommy has decided to stay in Jacksonville so that we can build on last season."

The 30-year-old Grady (6'7", 240) led Jacksonville to an appearance in ArenaBowl XXVIII in his first season with the Sharks. With Grady under center, Jacksonville earned the No. 3 seed in the American Conference and defeated the Orlando Predators and Philadelphia Soul on the road to the ArenaBowl. Grady fired 20 touchdowns against just two interceptions during Jacksonville's three-game postseason run, which ultimately ended with a loss to the San Jose SaberCats.

During his initial campaign with the Sharks, Grady maintained his reputation as one of the Arena Football League's top quarterbacks. Starting all 18 games, Grady completed 402 of his 597 pass attempts (67.4%) and threw for 4,660 yards and 95 touchdowns against just 11 interceptions. Grady finished second in the League in completion percentage, and his 122.6 pass efficiency rating ranked fourth among all AFL signal-callers.

Grady threw six or more touchdown passes without an interception on eight separate occasions, tossing a season high of eight scores in two separate games. Grady was twice selected as the AFL's Russell Athletic Offensive Player of the Week, earning that honor following after the Sharks' Week 14 win over Cleveland and Week 18 victory over Tampa Bay.

Prior to joining the Sharks, Grady played with the Pittsburgh Power (2014), Utah Blaze (2011-13) and Oklahoma City Yard Dawgz (2010). With Utah in 2012, Grady earned Most Valuable Player, Offensive Player of the Year and First Team All-Arena honors after establishing a new single-season AFL record of 142 touchdown passes.

For his career, Grady has completed 63.5% of his passes, throwing for 27,489 yards and 607 touchdowns against 105 interceptions. Grady currently ranks eighth all-time in touchdown passes and 10th in passing yards, as he crossed both the 25,000-yard and 600-touchdown marks during the 2015 season.

Grady began his collegiate career at Oklahoma before transferring to Utah. Grady is a native of Huntington Beach, California.
