Orlando Predators News Release
ORLANDO - October 16, 2015 - The 2015 South Division Champion Orlando Predators added two players Thursday during the Arena Football League's Offseason Assignment Process, acquiring four-time All-Arena defensive end Mike Lewis and rookie wide receiver Brelan Chancellor.
Lewis (6-2, 260, Adrian) ranks second in Arena Football League history with 56 career sacks. He is the AFL's active career sack leader and earned first or second team All-Arena honors four consecutive times from 2011-14. As a member of the Las Vegas Outlaws in 2015, he tied for seventh in the AFL with 9.5 sacks while totaling 28.5 tackles with 10.5 stops for loss, three forced fumbles, two fumble recoveries and one pass breakup.
Lewis previously played under Predators head coach Rob Keefe with the Utah Blaze in 2012. With Keefe serving as the team's defensive coordinator, Lewis set a single-season team record with a career-high 12.5 sacks.
"Mike has proven himself to be one of the most productive and consistent pass rushers in the AFL," said Head Coach Rob Keefe. "I have no doubt that he'll continue that productivity here with the Predators. I'm looking forward to adding his veteran presence to our defensive front next season."
Chancellor (5-9, 190, North Texas) was named the Conference USA Special Teams Player of the Year as a senior at North Texas in 2013, posting 663 yards with one touchdown on 24 kickoff returns and 386 yards with another score on 24 punt returns. He added 792 yards and four touchdowns on 53 receptions and set a single-season school record with 1,964 all-purpose yards. Chancellor was awarded first-team all-conference accolades as a punt and kickoff returner and also took home second-team honors as a wide receiver.
Chancellor was assigned to the New Orleans VooDoo during the 2015 offseason, but was placed on "Other League Exempt" after signing with the Ottawa REDBLACKS of the Canadian Football League prior to the start of training camp. He has also been a member of the San Diego Chargers (2014) and Pittsburgh Steelers (2015).
"Brelan is a gifted athlete who brings a lot of versatility to the table. Clearly he's dynamic on special teams, but he's also an explosive wide receiver. I expect him to be able to contribute in multiple facets of the game."
The Orlando Predators return to the Amway Center for their 25th Anniversary season in 2016. Season tickets are available now by calling 407-355-2200 or online at OrlandoPredators.com.
