Sacramento River Cats News Release
Round Rock, Texas - Home runs by first baseman Andrew Knapp, second baseman Isan Díaz, and left fielder Ka'ai Tom were not enough to lift the Sacramento River Cats (42-56) past the Round Rock Express (53-45) as they fell 10-7 on Saturday.
Knapp continued his hot start with Sacramento, going 3-for-5 with a double, two runs and a first-inning two-run homer. The Roseville, California native has homered in three straight games. He is 10-for-24 (.417) with six runs, two doubles, eight RBIs, and a 1.315 OPS in six games.
After Sacramento fell behind with two runs in the first, a run in the third, and three in the fifth, Díaz launched his 20th home run of the season to make it 6-3. The 26-year-old trails current San Francisco infielder David Villar by one homer for the team lead, and is five shy of Reno outfielder Stone Garrett for the league lead.
Down 10-4 in the ninth, Tom lined a three-run home run, his 10th of the season, 406 feet to center field (101.3 MPH exit velocity).
Right fielder Austin Dean went 1-for-4 with a run, a walk, and a stolen base, extending his season-high hitting streak to 11. The 28-year-old is 17-for-40 (.425) with seven runs, four doubles, eight RBIs, and a 1.056 OPS during the streak.
Two home runs masked an otherwise strong opening performance by right-hander Norwith Gudino (2-4), who allowed three runs on four hits while striking out six in 3.0 innings.
Righty Tristan Beck (4-6, 6.27) will try to earn the series split in Sunday's finale. He'll rematch Round Rock righty Cole Winn (6-2, 6.11) at 4:05 p.m. (PT). Listen to Johnny Doskow call the game online at rivercats.com or on the MiLB First Pitch app.
Additional Notes
Newly promoted shortstop Shane Matheny went 1-for-5 in his Triple-A debut.
Lefty Aaron Fletcher threw a perfect sixth inning. He has yet to allow a hit in 2.2 scoreless innings for Sacramento.
