Walleye Notes
- Hello Offense! Friday night the offense was the ruling force as Toledo and Reading combined to score six goals in the opening period. Unfortunately, Reading went on to score four unanswered goals in a 7-3 win.
- Defense Rules the Day! Toledo rebounded Saturday with a terrific defensive performance blanking the Trenton Devils 1-0. Alec Richards made 26 saves to preserve the win. Dave Caruso stopped 43 in the loss.
- Sawing Down the Devils! J.C. Sawyer scored his second game-winning goal of the season at 3:53 of overtime Saturday night. Both of his overtime game-winners (4-3 over Florida last Sunday) have come while Toledo has been on the power play. Sawyer leads the Walleye with three goals on the season.
- Walleye Firsts! Friday night did provide of a couple of firsts for the Walleye as Evan Rankin and Mike Hedden each collected their first professional goals. Saturday night's 1-0 win was the first shutout in the pro career of Alec Richards and the first shutout at the Lucas County Arena..
- Walleye Working Overtime! With the win Saturday night, Toledo is 2-0 this season in games that have gone past regulation time. Toledo is the only team in the ECHL with two overtime wins. The Walleye are also the lone team in the ECHL with 3 wins when tied after 2 periods (3-0-0-0).
- Shots, Shots, and more Shots! In every game this season, the Toledo Walleye have increased their shot total. From game one until game five in order: 19, 25, 30, 35, and 44. That gives Toledo 153 shots for in five games for an average of 30.6 per game.
- Group of Nine, became Eleven! Over the first five games Toledo scored fourteen goals by eleven different goal scorers. Only defensemen Jamie Milam and J.C. Sawyer have more than one goal this year.
- Fan-tastic! Toledo continued its great start with the home fans two more great crowds Friday (6,030) and Saturday (5,368). For the season, 32.062 fans have passed through the turnstiles at the new Lucas County Arena for an average of 6,412. The Walleye currently lead the ECHL in average attendance for the season.
On the Hook
- Gametime! On Thursday night, Toledo will embark on its first road trip of the year as they head to Reading for a date with the Royals. Reading won round one with a 7-3 win Friday night. In that game Reading had 7 different goal scorers. Toledo is 23-17-3 all time against the Royals. On Saturday, Toledo will hop on the bus in the afternoon and spend Halloween in Kalamazoo to meet the first place Wings.

J.C. Sawyer (2 goals - 0 assists = 2 points)
J.C. continued right where he left off scoring the first goal Friday and then netting his second overtime game-winner Saturday.
Walleye Goaltender of the Week:
Alec Richards (1-0-0, 0.00 gaa, 1.000 save %)
Alec posted 26 saves for his first professional shutout.
