Elmira Jackals News Release

The Elmira Jackals enter the third week of the 2009-2010 ECHL Regular Season as one of three undefeated teams in the ECHL, along with the Kalamazoo Wings and Idaho Steelheads, with a 5-0-0-0 record. Justin and Tyler Donati enter the ECHL's third week tied for the league lead in scoring with ten points each.

There was no lack of suspense in any of the three Jackals games this weekend. On Friday, the Jackals set a team record when they scored five power play goals in a 7-4 win over the Johnstown Chiefs, including three in the first period. Tyler Donati had five points in the win (1-4), while Justin had four (2-2). The Jackals established an early 4-0 lead, and then had to hold on as Johnstown pulled to within one goal on two separate occasions. Two empty-net goals for the Jackals put the Chiefs away.

Elmira's most dramatic win of the season came Saturday night at Johnstown, as the Jackals needed a goal with 27 seconds left in the third period off the stick of rookie Ben Wright, his first as a pro, to send the game into overtime. Chanse Fitzpatrick won the game in the extra session at 3:03 with his team-leading fourth goal of the season, and the Jackals prevailed 2-1.

The Jackals had to battle back in the third period on Sunday as well, as they trailed 1-0 and 2-1 before scoring three straight goals in the third period to claim a victory on the road in Wheeling 4-3 over the Nailers. Chris Korchinski was credited with the game-winning goal, a shorthanded empty net tally at 19:16 of the third period, although Tyler Donati had the go-ahead goal at 7:18 of the third period on the power play.
