Tokarski Continues Spokane-Team Canada Tradition
December 17, 2008 - Western Hockey League (WHL)
Spokane Chiefs News Release
Dustin Tokarski's inclusion on Team Canada's roster for the World Junior Hockey Championship ended an eight year drought without a Chief on the roster. Spokane has had other players participate for their respective country (Sean Zimmerman, USA - 2007, etc., Valeri Bure, Russia - 1994, etc.), but as far as Canada goes, Spokane is back on the Team Canada landscape.
In the 10 tournament span from 1991-2000, Spokane had eight players on Team Canada at nine different tournaments. A Chief did not represent Team Canada in 1993 and Spokane has had two different players, Bryan McCabe and Brad Ference, play on two different clubs. The largest contingent of Chiefs in any one year was 1997 when Mike Babcock coached the baby 'Nats with Spokane captain Hugh Hamilton and forward Trent Whitfield.
SPOKANE - TRI-CITY MATCH UP AFTER THE BREAK
What did you ask for when you were sitting on Santa's lap? The only Holiday wish sure to come true will be another Spokane-Tri-City game two days after Christmas in the Spokane Arena. The Americans will visit just four days before another match-up, the Annual New Year's Eve date in Kennewick. In between the two Tri-City games the Chiefs will travel to Seattle on Sunday, December 28th.
Their first home game after a 10 day holiday break will be a Buck Night and CheerStix giveaway presented by SuperCuts. Hot dogs, popcorn and Coca-Cola products will all be available for $1 all night long and the first 5,000 fans through the gates will receive a pair of CheerStix courtesy of SuperCuts.
The game will also be the sixth of a 12 game television package on Comcast channel 78. Airtime is scheduled for 7:00 pm.
