Tobs Sign Two Tar Heels for 2011

Wilson, N.C. - The Wilson Tobs announced the addition of two players from the University of North Carolina for the upcoming season. Jeff Bouton and Brian Holberton will spend the summer in Wilson.

Bouton, a freshman from Wilmington, N.C., will play in the outfield and spend time at first base for the Tobs. He is a 6-0, 208 pound right hander who is majoring in business. Through 49 games this spring, Bouton has a .278 batting average with one home run and five RBIs. Out of John T. Hoggard High School Bouton was drafted in the 45th round (1,346th overall) by the Washington Nationals in 2010. He was rated the number 14 prospect in North Carolina by Impact Baseball and 20th in the state and 442nd nationally by Perfect Game.

Holberton is a 5-11, 190 pound utility fielder from Charlotte, N.C. The freshman has had 60 at bats for the Tar Heels this year and has a .217 average with one home run, one triple, two doubles, and 10 RBIs. As a senior at Myers Park High School Holberton was ranked as the number 12 prospect in North Carolina by Impact Baseball and was an all-state selection. He was a three time All-Southwestern 4A selection, earned All-Charlotte Observer honors in 2008 and 2009, and was conference tournament MVP in 2009.

"I am very excited to have Bouton and Holberton on the team this summer" said Tobs head coach Bruce Johnson. "I think they will both see the field a lot this summer in a variety of positions and situations. We are glad to continue the strong relationship between UNC and the Tobs."

Opening Day for the Tobs is Tuesday May 31 against the Edenton Steamers at Fleming Stadium. Reserved seat season tickets are on sale now for $125 per seat while Tobs Twelve Packs, twelve undated general admission tickets, are on sale for $50. The Tobs will play 30 home games this summer.

The Coastal Plain League is the nation's hottest summer collegiate baseball league. Celebrationg its 15th season in 2011, the CPL features 15 teams playing in North Carolina, South Carolina and Virginia. The CPL gives college players the chance to refine their skills with the use of wooden bats. Players are housed with local families for the summer and past experiences have been very positive for both the players and hosts. Furthermore, the CPL has had over 800 alumni drafted and 42 alums make their Major League debut thus far.
